Louisville Bats News Release

The Louisville Bats ended their homestand on a high note, snapping their season-highs six-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Gwinnett Stripers on Sunday afternoon.

For the sixth straight game, it was the Stripers to open the scoring, this time on a solo homer from DaShawn Keirsey Jr. against Jose Acuna. That was the only blemish against Acuna, who struck out three and walked two while giving up one hit, the homer in 3.0 innings.

The Bats responded in the bottom of the third with three straight hits, capped by a two-run double from Jay Allen II to put the home team up 2-1.

Darius Vines took over for Louisville in the fourth and immediately worked into a jam as his former team loaded the bases with nobody out. But Vines escaped, striking out Cal Conley and inducing a double play from Chuckie Robinson to hold the 2-1 lead.

Louisville added on with RBI singles from Juan Brito in the fifth and P.J. Higgins in the sixth, extending the lead to 4-1. Vines wrapped up his outing after a scoreless sixth. He tossed 3.0 scoreless innings, giving up two hits with one walk and two strikeout.

Facing rehabbing Reds reliever Graham Ashcraft allowed two runs in the eighth and was removed with the tying run on third and two outs. Zach McCambley entered and got out of the inning when P.J. Higgins picked Jim Jarvis leading too far off third base.

The Stripers again threatened off McCambley in the eighth, putting runners on first and second with nobody out. Higgins caught Rowdy Tellez trying to steal second on the back end of a double steal for the first out. McCambley escaped unscathed after a ground out and a strikeout, holding the 4-3 lead. The Bats added a run in the bottom of the frame when Allen II legged out an RBI infield single, doubling the advantage to 5-3.

In the ninth the Stripers scored a run off Hunter Parks before the reliever wrapped up the one-run win for his eighth save of the season.

Next Game: Tuesday, September 1, 7:35 p.m. E.T. at Nashville Sounds (Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers)

Probable Pitchers: Louisville RHP Chase Solesky (0-0, 2.89) vs. Nashville LHP Thomas Pannone (4-3, 4.90)
