PIFL Semifinal Players of the Week
July 3, 2013 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
KNOXVILLE, TN - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Richmond Raiders WR Hakeem Moore, Alabama Hammers LB Jeremy Grier, and Alabama Hammers K Brian Jackson are the Semi-Final Players of the Week.
With teammate Herb Jones grabbing some post-season accolades, WR Hakeem Moore (5'11 175, Towson) garnered attention worthy of his own this season. Voted by opposing teams, despite finishing in the top ten in catches, yards, and touchdowns Moore got slighted as the lone receiver to finish in those three categories and not be listed on the All-PIFL 1st or 2nd team. On Monday he let his frustration known grabbing a league-high twelve receptions, 149 yards and four touchdowns in the Raiders thrilling 44-40 come from behind victory over the Steelhawks en route to him earning the Offensive Player of the Week nod. Moore has now caught a ball in 14 consecutive games along with a touchdown in nine straight.
Led by the strongest defense in the PIFL, this past Monday the Alabama Hammers advanced to their first ever Championship Game defeating the defending champion Albany Panthers 61-46. Continuing their trend of creating turnovers, the Hammers picked up three turnovers including 15-yard interception return for a touchdown by LB Jeremy Grier (6'2 210, UT-Chattanooga) garnering him the PIFL Defensive Player of the Week. Alabama has now created a turnover in 15 consecutive games and will now set their sights on their first Championship Game against the Richmond Raiders this upcoming Monday July 8th.
Solid all season in the kicking game, the Alabama Hammers K Brian Jackson (5'8 165, Ball St.) earned the Special Teams Player of the Week leading all kickers for the week in scoring with 13 points. Jackson ended the season leading all kickers in PAT percentage and on Monday he went 6-7 on extra point attempts, 2-3 on field goal tries (22, 17), in addition to connecting on one Uno to help drive the Hammers to their first ever playoff win.
The 2nd Annual PIFL Championship Game is this next Monday July 8th at 8:00 PM ET with the Richmond Raiders looking for redemption from their championship loss from a year ago in Huntsville, AL to take on the Alabama Hammers. To catch all the action, log on to www.proifl.com
