PIFL Names Week Seven Players of the Week

April 23, 2013 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN (April 23, 2013) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) names Alabama Hammers WR Mico McSwain, Columbus Lions DB Anthony Shutt, and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks K Evan Selman the Week Seven Players of the Week.

For the second time in three weeks, Alabama's Mico McSwain (6'3 215, North Alabama) earns the Offensive Player of the Week leading the Hammers in a thrilling 79-77 victory over the Steelhawks by hauling in eight receptions for 199 yards and six touchdowns. It was another high-volume performance from McSwain who is on pace to winning the receiving triple-crown. He currently leads the PIFL in receptions (42), yards (694), and touchdowns (20). The Hammers have not only exceeded their win total from a season ago, but with a win this Saturday they could match their win total combined from the past two seasons.

DB Anthony Shutt (6'0 190, Florida A&M) is the second Columbus Lions defender in the last three weeks to grab the Defensive Player of the Week award. In Saturday's come-from-behind victory over Richmond, Shutt moved to the top of the PIFL interception leaderboard after picking off two passes giving him a league-leading five for the season. Down by 15, the Lions defense blanked the Raiders holding them scoreless on their final three drives giving the offense enough time to pull off the 48-42 come-from-behind win.

K Evan Selman (6'0 180, Winston Salem St.) wasted no time adjusting to his new team leading all kickers in scoring for the entire week with 17. Along with notching three Uno's Selman, who was signed this past week, was 2-4 on field goal attempts (17, 40), and 8-9 on PAT attempts. Despite his efforts, Evan was unable to lead his new team to victory as the Hawks dropped their second straight to the Hammers also dropping below .500 for the first time since their opening week loss.

The Professional Indoor Football League will reach its mid-point this weekend and it's chalk-full with another Saturday triple-header. Two teams will be looking to erase losses from the previous week with Lehigh (2-3) hosting the Richmond Raiders (3-2) at 7:00 PM. For the second time in three weeks, Columbus (3-2) and Louisiana (1-3) will face-off with the meeting this time taking place in Georgia. Two weeks ago the Lions escaped the Smugglers Den with a 45-42 victory. To close out the weekend the first-place Alabama Hammers (5-1) host their rivals the Knoxville Nighthawks (1-5) at 8:00 PM. The last time these two foes met it ended with the Nighthawks winning in double overtime.
