PIFL Names Players of the Week
May 12, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
NASHVILLE, TN (May 12, 2015) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) is proud to announce the Week 8 Players of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: FB Melik Brown (Trenton)
For a game built primarily around teams passing the ball effectively, FB Melik Brown (6'2 275, North Carolina) it seems has a profound effect on the Trenton offense. Arguably the best offensive game all season, Trenton put together 299 yards of total offense with Brown rushing the ball twelve times for 43 yards managing to find the end-zone three times. His three touchdown performance moves him to atop the leader board in that category with eleven. In the midst of a three-game road swing, Trenton's win over Alabama helped end a two-game losing streak and will now set their sights onto a matchup in Erie.
Honorable Mentions: WR Robert Holland (Richmond), WR Antonio Allen (Trenton)
Defensive Player of the Week: DB Torez Jones (Richmond)
Arguably the most difficult selection of the week, DB Torez Jones (6'0 190, Western Carolina) of Richmond stood out after his three interception performance in the Raiders 70-46 win over Erie on Sunday. Explosion QB's combined to complete just 50% of their passes while also getting sack four times in the loss. Before their Memorial Day Weekend clash against the Freedom on the 23rd ,
Richmond will enjoy their first bye week of the year in the middle of their first winning streak this season.
Honorable Mention: DL Brandon Potvin (Trenton), DB Mike McMillan (Trenton)
Special Teams Player of the Week: K Edward Rhunke (Trenton)
Rounding out an impressive 57-.36 Freedom win over the Hammers this past weekend, Kicker Edward Rhunke (5'8 160, Mount Union) made his debut on Friday earning the Special Teams Player of the Week by knocking a league-high three Uno's for the week. Rhunke pitched in a total of ten points, tied for the weekly high with Richmond's Stevens, by going 4 of 5 on PAT attempts as well as 2 of 3 on field goal attempts (40, 20). Trenton closes out the 2015 regular season with three of their five remaining games on the road including their next two.
Honorable Mention: K T.C. Stevens (Richmond)
Week 9 of the PIFL season kicks off this Saturday with the Explosion (1-5) still in search of their first win and will conclude with a double-header on Sunday with the Hammers (3-4) heading north to face the Steelhawks (5-2) and the Venom (4-2) returning from their bye to host the Lions (5-2).
