PIFL Names Players of the Week

NASHVILLE, TN (May 13, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces Georgia Fire QB Cecil Lester, Trenton Freedom DL William Hollis, and Alabama Hammers K Armando Cuko as the Week 7 PIFL Players of the Week.

Winning their second straight and third overall, the expansion Georgia Fire (3-2) continued their hot streak on Saturday defeating the Nashville Venom 58-56. QB Cecil Lester earned the Week 7 Offensive Player of the Week passing for a PIFL season-high 344 yards along with tossing a personal season-high six touchdowns in the victory. With 19 second remaining in the 4th quarter, Lester rallied the offense to a come from behind victory capped off by Ryan Gates 43-yard game-winning field goal. This is Lester's fourth nod overall in three years and up next for Georgia is a meeting with the Harrisburg Stampede (2-4).

For the third straight week and fourth time overall, a Trenton Freedom (4-2) player earns the PIFL Zoombang Defensive Player of the Week award. This week DL William Hollis earned the nod leading the Freedom to another strong defensive showing behind his league-high 2.5 sacks for the week. For the third consecutive week opposing passers we're held below 200 yards passing while Hollis follows teammates DB Dominic Joseph, LB Jeffrey Morgan, and DL Marcus Slocum all of whom previously earned the Zoombang award. On Saturday Trenton will try to keep up the momentum on the road with a trip to Richmond this weekend.

In dramatic fashion the Alabama Hammers (1-4) ended their losing skid on Sunday beating the previously unbeaten Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (4-1) 51-48 behind the game-winning field goal from the Week 7 Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week in K Armando Cuko. Behind a league- leading 15 points, including three Uno's, six PAT's and two field goals (21, 23), no points we're more important than the final three from Cuko sealing the Hammers victory as time-expired. Cuko marks the first player of the week recipient this season for the Hammers, and next week they will try to make it two straight when they return home to host the idle Columbus Lions (3-2).
