PIFL Names Players of the Week

May 6, 2014 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release

NASHVILLE, TN (May 6, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks QB Adam Bednarik, Trenton Freedom DL Marcus Slocum, and Lehigh Valley Steelhawks K Michael Barnard are the Week Six Players of the Week.

For the first time in franchise history the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (4-0) begin their season with a four- game winning streak and a lot of that credit can go to their top rated defense (number one scoring defense in PIFL), but it also doesn't hurt to have a top signal-caller like the Week 6 Offensive Player of the Week in QB Adam Bednarik. Despite off the pace from last season, through four games he threw 17 TD's and completed 72% of his passes, Bednarik has put the Hawks on a four-game winning streak matching the club's longest winning streak. In the 36-30 thrilling win over Keystone State rival Harrisburg, Bednarik completed 17 of 23 passes for 162 yards accounting for three total touchdowns while rushing for 49 yards. Opposing defenses fail to plan against his running ability, in doing so over the past two seasons he has rushed for ten scores.

With the average margin of victory of 2.8 points, the expansion Trenton Freedom (3-2) have arguably witnessed the closest four game stretch of contests any first-year club has ever seen. Last Saturday with a little under three minutes remaining down by 16 points, the Freedom managed to rally of 17 unanswered points to complete the 33-32 comeback victory over Richmond 1-4). If not for the stellar play of their defense, led by the Week 6 Zoombang Defensive Player of the Week in Marcus Slocum and his three sacks there may have never been a late-game rally. In a stretch that began mid-way through the 2nd quarter, the Trenton was held scoreless for over two quarters. Trenton defense held the Raiders scoreless the game's final quarter by collected two of their four fumbles in the game. Slocum makes it back-to- back weeks a Freedom defensive player has earned the Zoombang weekly award; last week LB Jeffrey Morgan earned the nod.

With the fall of the Nashville Venom (3-1) by the hands of the Georgia Fire (2-2) over the weekend, only one team in the PIFL remains undefeated and that's the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks. Over the past two weeks they have unleashed the now back-to-back winner of the Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week recipient in the ultimate weapon in the right leg of K Michael Barnard. This week Barnard out did himself by connecting on four Uno's giving him a league-lead nine through four games. In all he accumulated ten points while also going 3 of 4 on PAT attempts as well as notching a 36-yard field goal.
