PIFL Names Players of the Week
Published on April 8, 2014 under Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release
NASHVILLE, TN (April 8, 2014) - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks QB Adam Bednarik, Nashville Venom DB Corry Stewart, and Georgia Fire K Ryan Gates are the Week 2 Players of the Week.
As the only returning offensive starter from a year ago, some might have expected some lag time for Steelhawks QB Adam Bednarik to jell with his new receiving core. Instead it was just new season and same story for the Hawks and company as Bednarik took home the Week 2 Offensive Player of the Week leading his squad in a twelve point come from behind 4th Quarter win over Trenton. Adam threw a league-high six touchdowns including the game's decisive score when he connected with WR Brandon Renford for the game-winning score.
It has been an exciting start to the expansion Nashville Venom's 2014 season opening the year with a 2-0 record including last Saturday's come from behind 40-31 victory over the Stampede.
Saturday's contest was a defensive slugfest in which the starting quarterbacks combined to throw eight interceptions. To close out the game, the Venom held the reigning Offensive Player of the Week in QB E.J. Nemeth to three consecutive scoreless drives including DB Corry Stewart's third interception of the game as the final seconds ran off the clock. As the main catalyst for the stingy Nashville defense, Stewart earned the Week 2 Defensive Player of the Week for helping complete the Venom's first 4th quarter come from behind victory in franchise history.
The Week two Vidswap.com Special Teams Player of the Week award goes to Georgia Fire K Ryan Gates. Already a three-time recipient from previous season, Gates lead all kickers in Week 2 overall with 15 points including going a perfect 8 for 8 on PAT attempts, 1 for 1 on FG attempts (24) as well as notching four Uno's in Georgia's 57-55 victory on Saturday.

Week 3 of PIFL action gets an early kickoff date beginning with double-header action this Friday with the expansion Georgia Fire (1-0) traveling south to take on division rival Columbus (1-1). The later on the Harrisburg Stampede (1-1) will try to rebound from Saturday's loss to the Venom when they play hosts to the Steelhawks (1-0). The weekend will conclude on Saturday with a 2013 PIFL Championship Game rematch in Richmond between the (0-2) Raiders and (0-2) Hammers with the loser potentially facing an insurmountable start to their season.
