PIFL Announces Players of the Week

June 18, 2013 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) News Release

KNOXVILLE, TN - The Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) announces that Lehigh Valley Steelhawks QB Adam Bednarik, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks DB Alex Ajayi, and Richmond Raiders K T.C. Stevens are the Week 15 Players of the Week.

In one of the best back-and-forth games of the season, the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks ended a 15-game Albany Panthers home-winning streak thanks in large part to the huge play-making ability of their signal-caller Adam Bednarik. Bednarik earned the Week 15 PIFL Offensive Player of the Week by completing 22 of 31 passes for 285 yards and 7 total TD's in their 53-49 victory over the Panthers. His key play of the game came with just twelve seconds remaining on a 4th down touchdown pass to Toriel Gibson serving as the game's winning score. With their win, the Steelhawks earned a berth as the 3rd seed in the playoffs setting up a third matchup against the 2nd seeded Richmond Raiders on Monday July 1st.

In a game that featured loads of offensive highlights, it was arguably two second half interceptions by the Steelhawks that proved to be the difference in their win over Albany. DB Alex Ajayi picked up the Week 15 Defensive Player of the Week for his interception return for a touchdown. The 25-yard interception return broke a 28-28 tie setting up an epic back-and-forth battle that saw the lead change hands six times. Late in the 4th quarter Lehigh picked up another key INT when Chris Johnson stepped in front of Cecil Lester pass eventually setting up the Hawks game-winning drive.

Faced with a must-win situation of their own, the Richmond Raiders found themselves dead-locked in a battle against the Swashbucklers. That was until a 22-point 4th quarter outburst by the Raiders leading them to a 61-45 victory. Kicker T.C. Stevens earned the Week 15 Special Teams Player of the Week after tying for the league-high in points scored by kicker with 13. Stevens finished a perfect 8 of 8 on PAT attempts, added a 29-yard field goal, as well as knocking through two Uno's. This is his third player of the week nomination having won the award back in Week 4 and 6.

Even though the 2013 PIFL playoff schedule is already set, one game remains on the docket with the Columbus Lions (4-7) heading to Albany (6-5) to take on the Panthers. Columbus will look to end a four-game losing streak against the Panthers while Albany will try and create some momentum as they enter their 2013 playoff run. Action takes place this Saturday at 7:30 PM.
