Pier-Luc Pelletier suspended five games

BOUCHERVILLE, Tuesday, November 1st, 2011 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Disciplinary Prefect, Raymond Bolduc, today suspended Rimouski Océanic defenseman Pier-Luc Pelletier for five games. The suspension was handed down following two complaints brought to the attention of the Disciplinary Prefect by the Shawinigan Cataractes. The incidents occurred on October 28th.
The Rimouski Océanic player warrants a suspension for the following gestures:
In regards to the first incident, the suspension was handed down for boarding. Here is the rationale which led to this decision:
- The opponent had control of the puck and was facing the boards while only a few feet from it in a vulnerable position.
- The player pushed his opponent in the back, projecting him head first into the boards.
- No injury was sustained by his opponent following the gesture.
In regards to the second incident, the suspension was handed down for a hit to the head. Here is the rationale which led to this decision:
- The opponent was coming out of his zone, along the boards and was in possession of the puck. He was travelling at a high speed and was in a vulnerable position.
- The player went towards his opponent while travelling at a high speed and hit him.
- The impact occurred simultaneously with the upper body and the head.
- The gesture was dangerous and resulted in an injury.
