Pickles Win Fifth Straight in 6-4 Victory Over Bellingham

July 29, 2018 - West Coast League (WCL)
Portland Pickles News Release

Portland, Ore. - A game that featured a pair of coaches ejected for the visitors and concluded with a wild top of the ninth ultimately finished a 6-4 win for the Portland Pickles over the Bellingham Bells on Saturday night in front of 2,397 fans at Walker Stadium.

The Pickles improve to 32-15 overall with the win, the best overall record in the West Coast League. Bellingham drops to 30-16.

Portland stays in first place in the South Division second half standings at 15-6, with Corvallis winning again tonight to improve to 12-5.

Bellingham made things interesting in the top of the ninth inning, scoring two runs and putting the tying run on base, but Connor Pellerin (Tulane) came on in relief to nail down the save with a pair of strikeouts.

Davis Delorefice (Orange Coast) paced the Pickles offensively with a four-for-five night, finishing a homer shy of the cycle. Joey Cooper (Cal St-Northridge) hit his eighth home run of the year, a solo shot to left field that tied the game at 2-2.

Ernie Yake's two-run home run in the top of the first put the visitor's in front 2-0 early, but Portland answered with six unanswered runs to take control. The Pickles handed starter Nick Nastrini (UCLA) his first loss of the season in his shortest outing of the summer, failing to record an out in the fourth.

The Pickles have won five in a row and go for the home sweep of the Bells tomorrow night, first pitch at 7:05pm.
