Illinois Piasa News Release
On Friday night, December 2, 2011 the Piasa battled hard to earn their first victory of the season as they beat the Louisville Lightning, 13-9. Elvir Kafedzic led the Piasa with 3 goals and 2 assists while Tim Vance also added 3 goals to the victory.
It was a close game throughout as the lead shifted hands four times in the 1st and 2nd quarters until the Piasa went on a tear and scored 4 goals midway through the 2nd quarter. The goal scoring frenzy not only took the lead, but propelled the Piasa to go up 7-4 at halftime.
The 3rd quarter saw Louisville outplay the Piasa. Ross Hopkins, Louisville's top scorer, led the charge scoring 2 of the team's 3 goals to make the score 8-7 Piasa by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Although Louisville scored 2 more in the 4th quarter, the Piasa scored 5 of their own, including 2 goals by Blake "Obi Wan" Ordell and cruised to a 13-9 victory.
The Piasa will host the 2nd Place Kansas Magic this Saturday night. Game time is 7:35pm.
