October 3, 2006 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Phoenix Flame News Release

Phoenix, AZ-The Phoenix Flame, an expansion team in the International Basketball League, has signed its first three players to the 2007 roster. Arizona native Donnell Knight will join IBL veterans Arthur Lewis and Larry Morinia when the Flame take the court for the first time in March of '07.

Knight, a 6'8" forward, had a stellar prep career in Tempe before moving on to Arizona State University. Knight's senior season (1998-99) accolades include:

- Arizona Player of the Year Phoenix Metro Basketball Magazine

- Gatorade Mountain Region Player of the Year

- First team All-Arizona Arizona Republic

- MVP of NBA Players Association Camp (summer of 1998)

Knight was drafted by the Fayetteville Patriots (NBDL), and also played for the Yakima Sun Kings (CBA). Knight is currently playing professionally in Portugal.

Lewis, a 5'10" guard, averaged 13.2 points per game for the IBL's Central Oregon Hotshots, last season, earning a spot on the 2006 IBL All-Star team. In two seasons with the Hotshots, Lewis developed a connection with the local fans that was unrivaled across the league.

Morinia, a 6' guard, was also an IBL All-Star in 2006. Morinia averaged 24.8 points per game for the Eugene Chargers, earning a tryout with the Phoenix Suns

"I am truly excited about our first player signings because these guys are proven pros and have great character. Arthur and Larry will be our team captains on and off the court. Those guys are true role models and will be great for the community. Donnell Knight is a Phoenix native and has shined throughout his career from St. Mary's High school to ASU. Donnell is a player that has played against NBA talent and has the potential to break into the league, so we are really excited to have him be part of the Phoenix Flame"
