INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The Indiana Ice announced today that defenseman Mike Phillippi has verbally committed to play collegiate hockey at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Phillippi will begin his college career in the fall of 2007.

Phillippi played in 56 games during the 2005-2006 season, recording 16 points (4 G, 12 A) and 81 penalty minutes for the Ice.

Since the 2004-2005 season, the University of Nebraska-Omaha has become "Ice University" as four other Ice players have committed to don the Maverick red and white. Phillippi and teammates Eric Olimb and John Kemp will join former Ice players Eddie Del Grosso and Tomas Klempa for the 2007-2008 season.

"He is going to be a really good college defenseman," Assistant Coach Scott McConnell said of Phillippi. "He is a guy that all the guys look up to because his attitude is always positive."

The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks are a member of the Division I Central Collegiate Hockey Association, a league that also features such hockey schools as the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
