Philadelphia Wings' forward Athan Iannucci breaks the league's single-season goal scoring record; Iannucci scores his 62nd goal of the season tonight
Athan Iannucci entered tonight's game against the Minnesota Swarm with 60 goals scored on the season, only one behind the all-time single season record of 61, set by Gary Gait of the Colorado Mammoth in 2003. In the third quarter of tonight's game, Philadelphia Wings at Minnesota Swarm, Iannucci scored the record-tying and record-breaking goals.
After being held to no goals in the first half of tonight's game, Iannucci scored the record-tying goal, his 61st of the season, with 8:56 remaining in the third quarter. It was a power play goal with assists going to Merrick Thomson and AJ Shannon.
Moments later, Iannucci scored the record-setting goal, his 62nd of the season, with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter. It was an even-strength goal, assisted by Kyle Sweeney and Taylor Wray. The game was briefly halted, and Iannucci was applauded by the Minnesota fans for making history. The goal made the score Minnesota 11, Philadelphia 9. The game is ongoing at the time of this release.
