
Philadelphia Soul to Open Training Camp at TriState Sports this Weekend

The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League are set to open their 2004 training camp at TriState Sports Complex in Aston, PA. Soul players will report to the facility for testing on Saturday, January 10th and will have an introductory practice on Sunday, January 11th.
Practice will be open to the public beginning Monday, January 12th with 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. sessions. Players will be made available to the media 15 minutes prior to each practice and immediately following each session.

DIRECTIONS TO TRISTATE SPORTS:

From I-95 South to Exit 3A Route 322 towards West Chester. Exit on to Route 452 North. At the second traffic light, turn right onto Dutton Mill Road. At next light, turn right on Concord Road. Tri-State is one mile on the right. Driving time from South Philadelphia is 15-20 minutes.

SAN JOSE SABERCATS SCRIMMAGE:
The Philadelphia Soul will travel to San Jose to scrimmage the San Jose SaberCats. The Soul will be departing Philadelphia on Monday, January 19th for the scrimmage which will take place on Wednesday, January 21st. The Soul will return to Philadelphia on Thursday, January 22nd and have a regular practice at TriState Sports on Friday, January 23rd. ROSTER SIZE:
AFL teams are permitted to bring 37 players into camp. Rosters must be cut to 24 by Monday, February 2, 2004.
LOCAL CONNECTIONS:
Philadelphia natives Sean Scott and Keita Crespina will join the Soul this season. A native of Overbrook, Scott spent the last three preseasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and attended Millersville University where he earned All-PSAC honors all four years setting school records for longest reception, as well as most receiving yards in a game as a sophomore (227). Scott also set the NCAA record for most touchdowns by a freshman with 13. Scott was an All-Delaware County and All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection at Archbishop Carroll HS in Radnor, PA.
Crespina, a Philadelphia native and Temple University graduate, was acquired by the Soul from the Tampa Bay Storm. Crespina was voted the Storm Ironman of the Year in 2002 and while at Temple was voted team MVP in 1992 and was signed as a rookie free agent to the Philadelphia Eagles in 1993.
Van Johnson will also be returning to Broad Street this season, a standout at Temple University, Johnson was a three year starter for the Owls and in his senior season, Johnson led the Big East with eight touchdown catches and finished second in the conference with 50 receptions and 902 receiving yards en-route to being named to the All Big-East First Team.
Camden, New Jersey native Michael Harrison bring seven years of Arena Football experience to the Soul and is the elder statesman of the line. Harrison was a a "Blue Chip Illustrated" Third Team All-American at Camden High in New Jersey and a three-year starter at North Carolina State.
