Philadelphia Soul Sign Pair Of Wide Receivers

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Soul have signed WR's Jerrian James and C.J. Johnson. They have also activated OL Kelvin Chaisson, placed WR Scottie Vines on the injured reserve and waived FB George Layne.

James (6'0", 190, Houston) began his AFL career with the Orlando Predators two seasons ago and was a vital part of their ArenaBowl run last season. He saw action in four games with the Predators this season and has caught 27 passes for 292 yards with four touchdowns before being release on 4/25. Last season, he had 69 receptions for 882 yards with 16 touchdowns in 16 games. James also returned 72 kickoffs for a total of 1,231 yards while ranking fourth on the team with 102 total points. Against the Soul, he was named the Offensive Player of the Game with 185 all-purpose yards after grabbing four balls for 102 yards and 83 yards on four kick returns.

Johnson (5'10", 175, Tennessee State) joins the Soul after playing with the defending ArenaBowl champion Chicago Rush the last two seasons and briefly with the Nashville Kats. He began this season in training camp with the Rush before being released. Last season, Johnson was the starting offensive specialist and leading receiver while playing in 12 games for the Rush and caught 66 passes for 743 yards with eight touchdowns. He also returned four missed field goals for a total of 191 yards with three for touchdowns. He was waived by the Rush on 5/3 and spent the remainder of the season on the practice squad for the Nashville Kats.
