Philadelphia Soul Playoff Update
July 4, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Philadelphia Soul News Release
WHAT'S UP TODAY
Preparing for the Divisional Round game against New York that will be on Saturday night, Soul players arrived at the Coliseum in Voorhees at 8 am for meetings on Friday. The team then had a walk-thru on the field starting at 9:00 for about a half hour. After showering, the guys went back to their apartments and enjoyed the rest of the July 4th holiday off. Player will likely begin reporting to the Wachovia Center at about 4 p.m. on Saturday.
HE SAID IT
Coach Munsey asked about his decision to go with QB Matt D'Orazio over Tony Graziani as the game day starter: "I talked to Tony, and it's come down to him not being able to practice for the last 4-5 weeks, or play. For me to go ahead and just throw him back in the lineup with the uncertainty of his health and not taking those reps is something I can't do to this team. The other thing is that we got a back up that's playing as well as anybody in the league. Would it be different if we just put Tony in there if Matt weren't playing well? Yes but that's not the case. Right now we like this decision for this football team."
Dragons Head Coach Weylan Harding how his team is feeling: "We're excited about the opportunity to continue on this playoff run. The win at Dallas was a huge win, having to go down there on the road. You know facing one of the top-tier teams in this league and our division and it's kinda got us prepped for a similar situation going up there in Philadelphia when you're playing the number one team in the league."
AROUND THE LEAGUE
The following AFL awards are scheduled to be announced next week: On Tuesday the Coach of the Year will be announced, the ADT Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, and Offensive Player of the Year will be announced Thursday...
SOUL PATCH UPDATE
Soul fans continue to send in their Soul Patches from across the country. Today's Soul Patch belongs to New York Dragons QB Aaron Garcia. The Soul PR department came across this picture of Garcia and decided that Garcia seems to be sporting his own Soul Patch in hopes that the Philly fans will decide to go easy on him Saturday.
