Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA â The Philadelphia Soul announced today they have acquired two offensive/defensive linemen. Cyron Brown was acquired through a trade with the Tampa Bay Storm for future considerations and Winfield Garnett was awarded off of waivers to the Soul.
The Soul also announced they have placed WR/LB Brian Leigeb on recallable waivers and waived OL/DL La'Zerius White.
Brown (6-5, 275) was in his first season with the Storm after leading the Colorado Crush in tackles for a lineman last season with 16.5. Brown also tied for second on the Crush with two sacks. In six games this season, Brown has recorded 3.5 tackles, one sack and two quarterback hurries.
Brown recorded 14 sacks in his senior year at Western Illinois and finished second on the team with 107 tackles.
Garnett (6-6, 320) was selected by the Colorado Crush with the second overall selection in the 2004 Expansion Draft, a choice they obtained in a trade with the Soul for OL/DL Dwayne Missouri. Although Garnett has yet to play in the AFL, he has been on the roster of the Crush, San Jose SaberCats (2002) and Florida Bobcats (2001). Garnett was on the exempt list of each team. Garnett spent 2001 with the Minnesota Vikings where he recorded 19 tackles and two sacks in 12 games. Garnett also spent the 2000 training camp with the New Orleans Saints and 1999 training camp with the Seattle Seahawks.
A standout in NFL Europe, Garnett spent the 2001 NFL offseason with the Amsterdam Admirals and ranked third in the league with eight sacks. He also had 46 tackles, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup.
During his career at Ohio State University, he totaled 83 tackles, 18 for a loss and five sacks.
The Soul return home to the Wachovia Center this Sunday, March 21st when they host the Colorado Crush. Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m. and can be seen live on NBC-10. The Crush are co-owned by 2004 NFL Hall of Fame inductee, John Elway. The game is being billed as "Rock vs. Jock". Tickets for the game are still available.
