Philadelphia Independence News Release

DOWNINGTOWN, PA (December 5, 2011) - The Philadelphia Independence will hold open tryouts for prospective players December 8-9 at United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, PA, the official training facility of the Philadelphia Independence. The two-day combine will allow players the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of back-to-back Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Coach of the Year, Paul Riley.

The tryout event allows Independence coaches to evaluate new talent and see potential draft picks prior to the WPS college draft in January. "The tryout gives us a chance to evaluate the overall player pool for not only the Independence, but for the draft, and for the league as well," said Independence assistant coach, Skip Thorp. "We are looking for good players that are already on the 2012 draft list. It gives us a chance to look at them in person, and to see talented players from schools that may not have necessarily received national coverage."

Over the course of the tryout, players will participate in tactical and technical training sessions and compete in a series of small sided and full field games. The tryout is open to any player that completes and returns the necessary registration forms and is at least 18 years of age as of March 1, 2012.

The WPS College Draft will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America annual convention, held this year in Kansas City, Kan.
