Philadelphia Independence Ownership in Germany

July 17, 2011 - Women's Professional Soccer (WPS)
Philadelphia Independence News Release

Proudly wearing their Philly Independence swag, the ownership of the Independence invaded Frankfurt yesterday in preparation for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup Final. Linda Halstead and senior advisor John Habib, together with the WPS Chief Executive Officer, Anne-Marie Eileraas, and other WPS ownership groups arrived in Germany as part of the WPS delegation celebrating the USA's championship match against Japan.

Says Linda Halstead, "The atmosphere is fantastic. After landing in Frankfurt and hotel check-in, we had some wienerschnitzel and beer and were soon on to a terrific fireworks show that entertained thousands of fans. It is great to see women's soccer be the center of the world's attention here and in the media, where it has long deserved to be. Although the US WNT players are busy preparing for the match and not hanging around too much, I had a good time catching up with A-Rod's parents at the hotel. They relay that Amy is fired up and ready to score some goals."

"It's off to the US Consul soon where we will be greeted by the Vice President's wife, (Dr.) Jill Biden, the US Ambassador to Germany, Phil Murphy (a HUGE WPS supporter), and Chelsa Clinton. Yes, I intend to give Dr. Jill Biden a Philly Independence t-shirt and invite her to a Philly home game. Finally, I have to confess, I did take the time to proudly announce Philly's big victory on Saturday over Atlanta - adding another 3-points to our 1st place margin (WOOHOO Paul Riley and the Independence ladies, you ROCK!!!). Stay tuned, it's off to explore the beautiful stadium. I will send more news and photos."

GO USA and the PHILADELPHIA INDEPENDENCE, both Championship bound!
