Phil Defranco Discusses the New Dayton Devils with Head Coach/GM Marc Lefevbre

September 10, 2012 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) News Release

Phil DeFranco from the FHL staff sits down with new Head Coach/GM Marc Lefevbre of the Devils

Phil: The Outlaws last season set the bar quite high for FHL expansion teams. Do the Dayton Devils go into their first season trying to replicate that accomplishment or carve their own path?

Marc: Every team is different. The only thing we will try to replicate is winning a championship.

Phil: The City of Dayton has had a rich minor league hockey history. How do the Devils plan to continue this?

Marc: Dayton is a blue collar city and we will emulate this with the team we put together. The one thing this city is starving for is a championship and we plan on bringing this to our fans and the city.

Phil: The Devils open the FHL season on the road in Williamsport on Airmen Pond at Historic Bowman Field. Your thoughts on playing outdoors?

Marc: Interesting is one way of putting it. It will definitely give our league some press coverage. I will for sure be wearing my winter coat during those games.

Phil: For minor league hockey teams the toughest test is often the first season. How will the fledgling Dayton Devils show the hockey world they are here to stay?

Marc: By having a team the city can be proud of and having a team that will compete for a championship every season.

Phil: It's a long season and most coaches will say they would rather finish strong as opposed to starting strong. Does that same theory apply to a first year expansion team looking to solidify a fan base early on?

Marc: The goal for us is obviously to get out of the gate quickly and win hockey games. Our goal is stay consistent throughout the season and be drinking from the cup in late March.

Phil: What do the Dayton Devils have in store to make this team their fan's team?

Marc: We will be a very creative, fast paced, physical and skilled hockey team with a blue collar work ethic. Something the fans in Dayton will love.

Phil: What kind of a Devils team can we expect to see in season one? Will it be a finesse team with lots of scoring or do you expect this team to be a tough bunch of grinders?

Marc: We will have a little bit of everything. If you look at the players we have signed so far you will see that not only are they skilled but they are not afraid to mix things up as well.

Phil: What are your thoughts on fighting in minor league hockey?

Marc: I don't think there's any room for jumping players or sucker punching, but good old fashioned fighting and intimidation will always be a part of the game and fans love it.

Phil: Realistically what are your seasonal expectations for the Dayton Devils?

Marc: There is only one word that comes to mind: Championship that should be the goal every season in minor league hockey.

Phil: Thanks for your time and Good Luck this season.

Marc: Your welcome, and I hope to see you in Dayton this season.
