Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release

BOARDMAN, OH (Thursday, September 25th, 2008) - The Mahoning Valley Phantoms may not have any games this weekend, but that doesn't mean that they're taking the weekend off. Instead, players will be out in the community this weekend, assisting the staff at Boardman's Oktoberfest celebration.

Phantoms Head Coach and General Manager Bob Mainhardt says that it's important for the team to be involved in the community.

"Oktoberfest is a great opportunity for our guys to introduce themselves to great deal of our community," Mainhardt says. "This is a chance for people to meet them and see for themselves the fine young men we are bringing here to represent our valley."

The players will be helping with the shuttle bus aspect of Oktoberfest, riding the buses with festival goers and helping them on and off the bus as well as helping them find their cars.

The Phantoms will be assisting the Oktoberfest staff all weekend long, from noon until 5 P.M. on Saturday and then 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. on Sunday. The festival is being held at the Boardman Park on Boardman-Poland Road all weekend long.

The Phantoms have a deep history of community involvement, assisting local organizations for the United Way , Relay for Life, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the American Red Cross, Toys for Tots, the YMCA and others.

The Phantoms resume regular season play on October 3rd as they travel to Detroit to take on the Motor City Machine.

The Mahoning Valley Phantoms are owned by the B.J. Alan Company - Phantom Fireworks, located in Youngstown, Ohio.
