Phantoms sign Jeff Carter

(PHILADELPHIA, April 21, 2004) - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League today signed center Jeff Carter to an amateur tryout contact. The 6-3, 193-pound forward was the Philadelphia Flyers' first-round selection (11th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.

Carter recently finished his season with Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League and was named an OHL Second Team All-Star after leading the Greyhounds in goals (36), assists (30), points (66), power-play goals (11) and shorthanded goals (6). He also played in the OHL All-Star Game and received the Smartest Player Award in voting by league coaches.

The 19-year-old was recently ranked the fifth best prospect in the Canadian Junior Hockey League by Prospects Hockey magazine. Carter helped Team Canada capture the gold medal at the 2003 Under-18 World Championships and the silver medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships.

Carter is expected to make his pro debut tonight when the Phantoms host the Norfolk Admirals in Game One of the best-of-seven East Division Semifinals at the Wachovia Center. Game Two will also be played in Philadelphia on Friday at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets for the Phantoms' first three Calder Cup Playoff games, as well as 15-game strips for the entire playoffs are on sale. Prices for individual Phantoms playoff games are $15, $19 and $20 for adults, and $9 for all children 14 and under. Individual game playoff tickets are available at the Wachovia Center box office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley.
