Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release
ANN ARBOR, MI (Monday, January 19th, 2009) - While most of their teammates remain in the Valley, six Mahoning Valley Phantoms are showing their stuff on a national stage at the NAHL's second annual Top Prospects Tournament.
Phantoms forward Nick Shkreli, a late addition to the North Division roster at the tournament, scored four points and was named first star of the game on Monday night as the North rallied past Team Central for a 5-2 win.
Shkreli's teammate and Mahoning Valley linemate Jordy Trottier tallied two goals and an assist, garnering second star in Monday's win.
Phantom captain Johnny Meo also added an assist while assistant captain Carl Nielsen finished the game with a plus-one rating on the blue line.
The win helped the North squad bounce back from a 4-2 Sunday loss to Team USA's "Stars" squad. Mahoning Valley netminder Jordan Tibbett got the start between the pipes on Sunday, turning aside 28 of 31 Nationals shots in the loss.
The North Division squad will close out the Top Prospects event with a 2:15 PM matchup with Team South.
