Mahoning Valley Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH (Wednesday, November 12th, 2008) - The Mahoning Valley Phantoms are pleased to announce that the team has reached a deal to broadcast the remainder of their 2008-2009 NAHL schedule on ESPN Radio 1240, WBBW, in Youngstown.

The deal will allow the Phantoms' remaining 43 regular season games plus the Robertson Cup playoffs to be aired locally on the Valley's only full-time sports radio station.

Team President Bruce J. Zoldan says the organization couldn't be happier to have the Phantoms back on local radio.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with ESPN Radio 1240 this season," says Zoldan, "so that our fans can listen to all Phantoms games, both home and away. We are also very pleased that ESPN Radio 1240 and Cumulus Broadcasting are helping to secure the future of hockey here in our Valley."

Every game broadcast will feature a pregame show starting 15 minutes before the opening puck drop and a 10-minute postgame show following the end of each game. Phantoms Director of Broadcasting Paul Teeple will be handling the play-by-play duties.

Phantoms Head Coach and General Manager Bob Mainhardt sees the deal as a big positive for the organization.

"It's great. Radio is a very important medium to a lot of people," says Mainhardt, "and now fans will be able to listen to Phantoms hockey on the radio whether they're in their car or at doing things at home or wherever they may be. It's very exciting for us."

The Phantoms' Chevrolet Centre opener against defending Robertson Cup champion St. Louis will be the first game telecast on ESPN Radio. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 PM start; the pre-game show will begin at 7:00 PM.

Season tickets and individual game tickets are now on sale at the Phantom Box Office at the Ice Zone in Boardman. Call (330) 965-7500 for more information.
