Phantoms Midget AAAs Are National Tournament Bound

BOARDMAN, Ohio (Monday, March 17, 2008) - By virtue of a pair of wins this past weekend in the Mid-American District Championships in Carmel, Ind., the Phantom Fireworks Midget Major AAA team has now qualified for the Tier I, Under-18 National Tournament.

After winning the opening game on Friday, 5-2 over the Indiana Jr. Ice, the Phantoms earned a grueling 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Hornets in the District Championship Game on Saturday night.

The Phantoms qualified for the district tournament after winning the Ohio state championship game 5-3 over the Cleveland Jr. Jacks on Monday evening at the Ice Zone.

The Mid-American District includes Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Western Pennsylvania. It is one of the 12 districts within USA Hockey.

The Phantoms will now head to the Amherst Pepsi Center in Buffalo, N.Y. and will face the Michigan district champion - Belle Tire (Detroit) - on April 2 in the first game of the National Championships.

The teams will play a three game round-robin, before starting the single-elimination championship round on April 5. The National Championship game will be played on Sunday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

The Phantoms Youth Hockey program is based out of Boardman, Ohio and plays all home games at the Ice Zone, sponsored by the B.J. Alan Company - Phantom Fireworks.
