Lehigh Valley Phantoms News Release
Lehigh Valley, PA - The Lehigh Valley Phantoms, proud AHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, are pleased to announce that Phantom Charities will be making a $25,000 donation toward a new playground for Sheridan Elementary School in Allentown.
The announcement came at an assembly Thursday afternoon at Sheridan Elementary featuring Phantoms players, the Phantoms' masoct, meLVin, and representatives from Phantoms Charities. Phantoms players were on hand to discuss the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle while meLVin made a special appearance to deliver the donation wrapped in disguise as a holiday gift.
The donation from Phantoms Charities supplements the incredible fundraising efforts that have already been coordinated by the students and teachers at Sheridan Elementary. Students collected pennies at a time while teacher Jennifer Priestas set up a GoFundMe page that raised nearly $10,000.
The new playground will be built in April 2017 in partnership with Phantoms Charities, Allentown School District Foundation, Allentown School District, and Sheridan Elementary School. In addition, significant contributions to this endeavor were provided by both Air Products and Boyle Construction Management helping to make this upgraded playground a reality for the students at Sheridan Elementary.
Phantoms Charities mission is to strengthen the community by developing, instituting and operating charitable and educational programs and services aimed at improving the lives of children and adults in the Lehigh Valley and the surrounding communities, with a special emphasis on youth health, fitness, sports and education.
