PGCBL Alumni Hit Independent League Rosters

Published on May 24, 2012 under Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL) News Release

Heading into Memorial Day weekend, independent baseball leagues across the country have all thrown out their first pitch for the 2012 season. Independent leagues are circuits unaffiliated with Major League teams and/or their Minor League affiliates. Currently, there are six professional independent baseball leagues - the American Association, Atlantic League, Can-Am League, Frontier League, North American League and the Pecos League. Among all of the players in those leagues, there are 27 with ties to teams in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

"Collegiate baseball is where you get to watch many future professional stars up close. In New York, more professional players develop their skills in the PGCBL than any other collegiate league. Fifty four former PGCBL players are currently playing for Major League organizations, eight of them at the Major League level. When the Major League short season rosters are announced, we expect that over 100 professional baseball players will be alumni of PGCBL teams. It's great that our fans can cheer for some remarkably talented players.", stated PGCBL President Jeff Kunion. "PGCBL teams have been around for a long time and our coaches are very experienced. They know how to develop a player's skills. They know how to prepare them for pro ball."

Here is the lineup of former PGCBL players playing independent professional baseball in 2012.

Before the end of the season, Thielbar was signed by the Minnesota Twins. He closed out 2011 with the Advanced-A Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii, native spent all of the 2011 campaign in the Mariners farm system with Class-A Clinton and Advanced-A High Desert.
