Portland Forest Dragons News Release

DURHAM, N.C. - Winnipeg outfielder Charles Peterson returned to the Northern League with a bang, hitting .408 in the month of July to win the Rawlings Central Division Player of the Month award.

Peterson, who was playing in Mexico until signing with Winnipeg on June 28, took no time in re-establishing his bat in the Northern League. He went 42-for-103 (.408) with nine doubles, four triples, four homers and 25 RBIs for the month. He scored 21 runs, walked five times, stole five bases, had 71 total bases, slugged .689 and posted a .445 on-base percentage.

Peterson, a 28-year-old from Laurens, S.C., finished off the month with an 8-for-13 three-game series versus his old team Sioux Falls, pushing Winnipeg ahead Tuesday with a three-run homer to help the Goldeyes sweep the Canaries. Peterson hit .364 in 2001 for the Canaries and co-set a record for Central Division hits with 136.

Each Rawlings Player of the Month receives a complimentary glove from the sporting goods company. Joliet catcher Ryan Sienko, who is now playing in the Chicago White Sox organization, won the Central Division award for June.
