Chillicothe Paints News Release
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Taylor Perrett allowed just two baserunners, a walk and a hit batter, through his seven innings of work as the starter, but the Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, couldn't hold a late 5-0 lead, losing 6-5 to the REX in Terre Haute Friday night.
Chillicothe (15-11) scored an unearned run in each of the first two innings to take an early 2-0 lead. They added three in the eighth inning as Justin McIntyre, Parker Murdie and Trey Smith all singled to start the inning. Gavin Homer extended his hit streak to 18 games with a two-run single and Cole Andrews drove in another on a sacrifice fly, giving the Paints a 5-0 lead through seven and a half innings.
Perret's night was over after seven no-hit innings due to Prospect League pitching rules that do not allow a pitcher to face a new batter after throwing 85 pitches.
Cal McAninch, who entered the game with a 0.96 ERA in eight appearances, started the eighth for the Paints. Terre Haute's Carter Bridge singled to lead off the inning, breaking up the no-hitter. After a flyout, Jake Armentrout singled and, on a bobbled ball in left field, the runners advanced to second and third with one out. Cole Albers singled home Bridge to put the REX on the board. Will Hayes singled home Armentrout, making it 5-2. A balk advanced the runners to second and third and Justin Jenkins hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Albers, cutting the Paints lead to 5-3. Nate Haugh, the Prospect League saves leader, came in to replace McAninch and, after a long at bat, walked Ross Indlecoffer. Hayes scored on a delayed steal of home and Indlecoffer stole second and then scored on Austin Weiler's two-out single, tying the game 5-5.
Bridge hit his first triple of the season to start the bottom of the ninth and, after the Paints intentionally walked the next two batter to load the bases, scored on a single to right field by Albers, giving the REX their second walkoff win over the Paints in Terre Haute this season.
The Paints return home to games against the REX Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at VA Memorial Stadium. Saturday is Veteran's Appreciation Night by the VA Medical Center and Ross County Veterans Council. Sunday is Subway Kids Day and Strike Out Stroke Night.
