Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints split their doubleheader with the Champion City Kings Thursday night, losing game one 13-2 before shutting out the Kings 7-0 in front of more than 2,800 fans at VA Memorial Stadium.
In the first game, Cody Orr tied the game at one in the bottom of the second inning, driving home Collin Luty with a single.
The Paints (15-10) got the second run of the game one on a solo home run by Ethan Hajdukovic in the fourth.
Champion City (13-10) hit six home runs in the game, two by Bo Seccombe, as the Kings put up more than ten runs on the Paints' pitching staff for a second-straight game.
Game two went much more to the liking of the home fans. Rylan Peets (1-0) made his first start of the season and faced just two more than the minimum through six innings. He put the first two batters of the seventh on base, ending his night. Peets finished without a run allowed after issuing just two walks, surrendering two hits and striking out six to earn his first win of the season.
Peets got plenty of run support, but the only run he needed came in the bottom of the first. Trey Smith drove home Andrew Bacon with a single to center field, giving the Paints a 1-0 lead.
Hajdukovic singled in the fourth, scoring Orr to make it 2-0. It also gave Hajdukovic a 10-game hit streak. Bacon scored on a wild pitch later in the inning and Smith came home on an error by the catcher, giving the Paints a 4-0 lead.
Orr hit his league-leading fifth triple of the season to lead off the bottom of the fourth, he scored on a wild pitch, making it 5-0 Chillicothe. Gavin Homer sent a pitch over the scoreboard in left field for a two-run home run, extending the Paints' lead to 7-0 and giving Homer a 17-game hit streak.
Nate Haugh struck out two of the three batter he faced in the seventh to finish the game, preserving the shutout for Chillicothe.
The Paints travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for a game against the REX Friday at 7:05 p.m. Chillicothe returns home for a weekend series with the REX Saturday and Sunday at VA Memorial Stadium. Saturday's game starts at 7:05 p.m. and is Veteran's Appreciation Night, sponsored by the VA Medical Center and the Ross County Veterans Council.
