Pensacola's Corey Banfield Named Easton Player of the Month

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Corey Banfield of the Pensacola Ice Flyers is the Easton Player of the Month for February.

Banfield scored 11 goals, including five on the power play and three game-winners (two of which were in overtime), to go along with eight assists as he helped Pensacola maintain their hold on first place in the SPHL standings.

Claimed off waivers from Mississippi (RiverKings) on December 6, the Calgary, Alberta native recorded points in all 11 games in February, posting seven multi-point outings. He also scored at least one goal in all but three contests, including tallies in each of Pensacola's final six games last month. Banfield is currently riding a seven-game goal streak and 15-game point streak, recording 28 points in that span.

Banfield currently ranks fifth in rookie scoring with 40 points in 45 games (16g, 24a), despite being held pointless in 13 games with Mississippi. Before turning pro, Banfield played four seasons at St. Thomas University and one season at the University of Calgary.
