
Pensacola defeats Sports in 10 innings

For the fourth time this season the Shreveport Sports played an extra inning game and for the fourth time lost. Friday it was a 10 inning 6-3 loss to the Pensacola Pelicans at Fair Grounds Field.
Early on it was a pitching duel between the Sports and Pensacola, but in the eighth inning with two-out Shreveport first baseman Hector Lebron connected on a two-run home run and the Sports led 3-2. However, in the top of the ninth, Pensacola pinch hitter George Branch came through with a two-out double that scored Jose Salas with the tying run. Then in the top of the tenth, Larry Bethea hit a three-run home run to give Pensacola the win.
Mal Winters took the loss in relief while Robbie Hebert picked up the win for Pensacola, also in relief.
Shreveport and Pensacola will meet in the second game of the three-game series Saturday at Fair Grounds Field. Game time 7:05.
