Pennsylvania Rebellion News Release

Washington, PA-February 12, 2015-The Pennsylvania Rebellion has acquired the rights to Akron Racers infielder Olivia Watkins, according to team officials.

The Alabama native will enter her second season in the National Pro Fastpitch League after a successful rookie season in Akron. She provided speed at the top of the lineup for the Racers in 21 games, scored 11 runs and recorded a .600 stolen base percentage.

"We believe her speed along with her true athleticism will improve the top of our order this season," General Manager Steven Zavacky said. "Her attention to the details of the game along with her patience at the plate and competitive mentality makes her the successful player she is, and we are looking forward to having her as a member of the Rebellion."

Prior to the start of the 2014 season, Watkins inked a free-agent contract with the Racers. She became the first player from the Western Kentucky University softball program to sign with an NPF team.

The WKU graduate set numerous single-season school records during her four year collegiate career, batting average (.442), runs scored (51), hits (87) and stolen bases (55). In her senior season, the speedster was caught stealing just three times in 58 attempts. Watkins was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region Third Team in 2014 and was named a two-time First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.

The Rebellion opens its 2015 season against the Chicago Bandits at CONSOL Energy Park on Friday, May 29th.
