Penn FC News Release

OTTAWA, Ontario - Penn FC dropped its second straight match as it fell 2-1 at Ottawa Fury FC Saturday afternoon.

Both teams showed glimpses of attacking play in the first half, each creating a chance to take the lead before the break, but the 0-0 stalemate held into the second half.

Penn FC found the breakthrough in the second half. Pressure from Jake Bond deep on the right wing forced Ottawa to give up a corner kick. Richard Menjivar's outswinger found captain Ken Tribbett at the near post. The charging center back angled his head and rifled the ball into the back of the net to take the lead.

The hosts battled their way back as the match went on. Maxime Crépeau sent a deep punt to Steevan Dos Santos in the Penn FC attacking third. The forward flicked a ball through to fellow attacker Tony Taylor, whose lofted effort leveled the score at 1-1 for the Fury in the 72nd minute.

Momentum shifted in favor of Ottawa quickly after the equalizer.

Pressure deep in the Penn FC defensive third led to Kévin Oliveira latching onto a misplaced pass. The midfielder found Dos Santos in the box and was tackled in the box for an Ottawa penalty kick. Dos Santos put away the spot kick to put the hosts in front in the 81st minute.

The Blue and White peppered the Ottawa goal with shots late including a screamer from Menjivar that was barely saved. However, Ottawa withstood the pressure and prevented the equalizer.

Penn FC will enjoy an extra week of rest after playing three matches in eight days. Rush Soccer's First Team returns to action Saturday, July 28 at the Charlotte Independence. The match can be streamed on ESPN+.
