Penn FC Challenges Bethlehem Steel FC
February 20, 2018 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
Harrisburg, PA - Penn FC kicks off an interstate rivalry early as it heads to Wayne, Pa. to face Bethlehem Steel FC on Feb. 21 at 1:30 p.m.
Penn FC has the opportunity to build on its early preseason experiences following its 2-1 win against LIU Brooklyn on Feb. 16. After falling down 1-0 in the opening two minutes to the 2017 Northeast Conference Runner-Ups, Penn FC regrouped and adjusted its tactics to take over the game.
Penn FC relied on new faces to earn a winning result. Pedro Galvão netted an equalizer minutes before halftime, before Aaron Dennis scored the eventual game winner on the other side of the intermission.
A match against Bethlehem Steel FC gives Penn FC its first chance to test its new talent against a USL club. With only four returning players from the 2017 Harrisburg City Islanders, Penn FC has many new faces getting reps in preparation for the regular season. Bethlehem Steel FC, like Penn FC, finds itself in a similar position of player turnover after nine players from the 2017 season left the team while five new players have since joined the team.
Bethlehem Steel FC are coming off a 2017 campaign that included a 12-12-8 record and the eighth position in the USL playoffs. The team's season ended after a 4-0 loss against eventual USL Champions Louisville FC.
The game will be played at YSC Sports in Wayne, Pa. The game is open to the public.
