WILKES-BARRE TWP., P.A. - The Binghamton Senators fell 3-0 to the East Division leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in Tuesday night hockey action at the Mohegan Sun Arena. Scott Munroe earned his first victory of the season, stopping all 25 shots he faced to earn the shutout, while forward Matt Rust added a pair of assists for the hometown Penguins.
The second period provided all the offense Wilkes-Barre would need in the game.
Nick Petersen put the Penguins on the board as he buried his own rebound at the 8:33 mark of the second. Rust and Jason Williams assisted.
Paul Thompson stretched the Pens lead to two, notching his third goal of the season at 18:37. Rust and Petersen combined for the assists to earn their second points of the game.
With just 10.4 seconds remaining on the scoreboard in the period, Brian Gibbons blasted a shot in top shelf to send Wilkes-Barre off for intermission with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Binghamton ended the night 0-for-7 on the power play. Wilkes-Barre was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.
Mike McKenna started in goal for Binghamton making 29 saves as he fell to 1-4-0 on the season.
The B-Sens look to turn their luck around Friday as they travel to Montreal's Bell Centre to take on the Hamilton Bulldogs. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen live on "Binghamton's Classic Hits" BIG 107.5 (WBBI-FM). Voice of the B-Sens Grady Whittenburg will have the call beginning 30 minutes before game time as he hosts Countdown to Faceoff.
