South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts have signed first basemen Brandon Woolard to their roster for the upcoming 2007 baseball season.
Woolard, a native of Parker, CO, last played baseball in 2006 for Menlo College . In 16 games for the Oaks, Woolard had a batting average of .311 with one home run and twelve RBI. Menlo had a majority of their games canceled due to weather so Woolard has not played a full season since 2005. Despite the lack of games, Woolard was named to the 2nd team D-III All-Independent team.
Woolard played junior college baseball at Cañada College in Redwood City, CA . As a sophomore in 2005, Woolard hit close to .370 with five home runs. He was then named to the 2nd team Coast North All-Conference team.
Woolard has decided to forgo his final year of collegiate eligibility to play professional baseball. He comes to the Peanuts as a result of a free-agent camp where he caught the eyes of South Coast League officials and Peanuts manager Wally Backman.
"I remember watching his games back when I was a little kid," Woolard said referring to Backman. "I am really excited to get the opportunity to play for him."
The Peanuts will begin to report to Albany the first week of May. Spring training will begin on May 8th.
Peanuts tickets are currently on sale by contacting the team office at (229) 435-8900! Opening day for the Peanuts is scheduled for May 18 against the Charlotte County Redfish. South Georgia Peanuts...One Shell of a Good Time!
