South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, split a double header with the Bradenton Juice on Wednesday night. The Peanuts finished the regular season in style as Tug Gillingham hit a walk-off home run to give the Peanuts the victory 8-6.
In the first game, the Peanuts started off well as they led 4-0 going into the top of the fifth in a game that was scheduled to go seven innings. The Juice then went on to score five runs in the final three innings to win 5-4. Steve Butler had a great game at the plate going 3-3 with two RBI. Chris Webb got the start and pitched very well allowing no runs on four hits in four innings of work.
In the second game, which was also scheduled for seven innings, the two teams traded runs back and forth through the first six innings. Going into the top of the seventh, the game was tied 2-2. The Juice then exploded with four runs and it looked as if they were going to win the game. After scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh, Doc Brooks came to the plate with two men on and promptly blasted a home run to left center to tie the game up. Brooks also secured the South Coast League batting title in the game. The two teams played three more innings before Tug Gillingham hit his first professional home run to give the Peanuts a 8-6 walk off victory.
The Peanuts finish the season with an overall record of 59-28 and will play in the South Coast League championship series. First game is set for Friday in Macon. South Georgia will host game two on Saturday with first pitch set for 7:10. The game can be heard in South Georgia on "1450 The Fan" and also online at southgeorgiapeanuts.com.
