
PCL releases 2009 schedule

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today released its championship schedule for the 2009 season. The 144-game schedule will again feature every team facing each other at least once as the PCL looks to break the seven-million fan attendance mark for the fifth consecutive season.
The 2009 season will begin on April 9th with some exciting matchups throughout the League. The two-time defending PCL and Triple-A champion Sacramento Rivercats will begin their 2008 season at home against Tacoma. The Salt Lake Bees joined Sacramento from the Pacific Conference in the 2008 PCL playoffs and they will begin their season at home against the Reno Aces. Reno is set to begin their first season in the PCL after the franchise relocated from Tucson. 2008 American conference playoff participants Iowa and Oklahoma City begin their seasons on the road against Round Rock and Memphis, respectively. Clubs from the American and Pacific conferences will face one another on four separate occasions in 2009 beginning with two-eight game matchups on May 12 and 21.
This season the Triple-A All-Star game will be hosted by the Pacific Coast League and will take place in Portland on July 15th. Three weeks after the All-Star break, the final two eight-game matchups between the two conferences will commence on August 5th and 14th. The PCL regular season will end on Monday, September 7th and following an off-day the playoffs will begin with two best-of-five conference championship series followed by the best-of-five League Championship series, beginning on September 15th.
The winner of the PCL championship series will once again go to Oklahoma City for the Bricktown Showdown on September 22nd to compete against the champions of the International League. The one-game playoff between the two leagues will decide the overall Triple-A Champion.
