PCL Names Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Mitch Jones of the Albuquerque Isotopes has been named PCL Player of the Week and Vincent Mazzaro of the Sacramento River Cats the PCL Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 18th-24th.
A native of Orem, Utah, Jones is in his tenth professional season and third with the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. He hit .435 (10-for-23) with three home runs, seven RBI, and seven runs scored helping the Isotopes finish the week 3-3 and in first place in the American Conference Southern Division (21-22). Jones was drafted in the seventh round of the 2000 MLB draft out of Arizona State University by the New York Yankees.
Mazzaro is the first back-to-back PCL award winner (May 18th and May 25th) in the 2009 season. The 22-year-old New Jersey native pitched eight scoreless innings on May 22nd against the Omaha Royals but took the no-decision in the extra innings win by the River Cats. He allowed only one hit and one walk and struck out six batters and lowered his ERA to 2.66 on the season good for fifth place in the PCL. Sacramento is 27-17 and in first place in the Pacific Conference Southern Division. Mazzaro was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 3rd round of the 2005 MLB draft out Rutherford (NJ) High School.
