Chicago, IL - The Premier Basketball League 2008-2009 playoffs are set to begin play on Wednesday, April 1 with the "one and done" wild card elimination game.
"We are very pleased with the parity in the league this season and anticipate that the playoffs will showcase PBL basketball at its finest," said PBL CEO Tom Doyle. "Congratulations must go out to all of the players, coaches and staff of the teams that have qualified for the 2008-09 PBL Championship series."
The #4 Wilmington Sea Dawgs (15-5) will host the #5 Vermont Frost Heaves (14-6) as they tip-off the playoffs Wednesday evening at 6:30PM in the wild card play-in game.
The opening round of post-season games in the best-of-three series is set for Thursday.
The East Division champion #2 Rochester RazorSharks (16-3) host the #3 Manchester Millrats (16-4). Game one will be played on Thursday at 7PM in Manchester, while Rochester will host games two and three (if necessary).
"The RazorSharks are a very well coached team, Rod Baker does a tremendous job, and they obviously have great players and great balance," explained Millrats Head Coach Rob Spon. "We've built the Millrats with veteran basketball players who know how to win, and we are a confident bunch heading into the playoffs. It's going to be a great series."
The Central Division champion #1 Battle Creek Knights (18-2) will host the winner of the wild card game between the Wilmington and Vermont. Game one will be played on Friday in either Wilmington or Vermont, time to be determined, while Battle Creek will host games two and three (if necessary).
The two winners of the first round of playoffs will advance to the best of three Championship Finals. Home court advantage will belong to the club with the higher seed and they will host games two and three (if necessary). Game one will be played at the lower seeds home court.
