March 29, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release
The South Georgia Peanuts are pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Pauley as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations. In that role, Pauley will serve as the first "Voice of the Peanuts". Pauley comes to Albany from St. Louis, MO where he most recently was broadcasting high school football and basketball. Last summer, Pauley worked for the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.
"I'm really impressed with what Matt has accomplished thus far in his career. We're definitely getting a talent on the rise. He paints a tremendous picture of what's happening on the field for the radio listener with his attention to detail and enthusiasm. Peanut fans will enjoy his broadcasts," Peanuts GM Keith Michlig said. "Even more important than the work he's doing in the booth this season, I'm thrilled with the commitment Matt has made to be an active member of this community."
While working in Evansville, Pauley served as the number two broadcaster. In addition to his broadcasting duties, he also worked as a media-relations assistant contributing to the daily game notes and compiling daily stat packs. Pauley also had responsibilities with the day-to-day team operations assisting with game-day ballpark setup and performing other general tasks.
Pauley, 24, brings six years of broadcast experience to the Peanuts' booth. He began his radio career in 2000 at KFNS radio in St. Louis where he worked in a number of different capacities. Some of his assignments included covering St. Louis Cardinals baseball and producing local talk-shows. After moving to Manhattan, KS to attend Kansas State University, he provided play-by-play for Kansas State football, basketball, baseball and volleyball on the school's student station. Pauley also covered Kansas State athletics and broadcast high school sports on KMAN radio. While in Kansas, Pauley was a nine-time award winner from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. He left Kansas to pursue a baseball broadcasting career and then spent this past off-season broadcasting high school football and basketball for WHCO radio just outside of St. Louis. He has also worked in print media where he has contributed to a number of different publications including the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and Sports Illustrated on Campus. He is a 2006 graduate of Kansas State University.
"I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to broadcast Peanuts baseball," Pauley said. "With this being the team's first season, I feel like I get to be part of something very special from the beginning. I also really look forward to being part of the Albany community."
All 2007 Peanuts games will be broadcast online through a league wide agreement with All In Broadcasting. The Peanuts are finalizing an over-the-air radio agreement which should be announced soon. The Peanuts play in the six-team South Coast League. Opening day for the Peanuts is scheduled for May 18 against the Charlotte County Redfish. South Georgia Peanuts...One Shell of a Good Time!
