Pats at Red Deer Gameday Preview

February 19, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Regina Pats News Release

Game #60

Tuesday, February 19th

Puck Drop: 8:00 p.m. CST

Regina Pats (20-33-3-3) Red Deer Rebels (31-22-4-2)

Tonight marks the fourth and final time the Pats and Rebels will face off this season. So far, the Pats hold a 1-2-0-0 record against the Rebels, falling 5-1 in the teams' previous meeting on Jordan Eberle Jersey Retirement Night in Regina. Colton Jobke (not in the lineup) leads the Pats with three points (1G, 2A) against the Rebels in the season series. In the other locker room, Rhyse Dieno only needed one game to jump into the lead for the Rebels in points through the series. He scored twice and assisted on two goals last time out. Coming into tonight's contest, the Pats have dropped three straight games including their loss in Calgary Sunday evening. The Rebels are winners of two straight contests with their last victory coming against Victoria on Friday. Tonight's game will be broadcast on 620 CKRM starting with the Press Box Sports Bar Pre-Game Show at 7:35 p.m. CST.

Lead Up: Hitmen Score Early in 5-2 Win

The Pats found themselves behind the eight-ball early as the Hitmen scored only 1:31 into the contest and jumped to a 4-0 lead by the early stages of the third period. Morgan Klimchuk and Lane Scheidl scored to make things interesting, but former Pat Colten Mayor scored to restore the Calgary three goal lead shortly after in the 5-2 victory.

Familiar Faces

Much like the Pats' game in Calgary Sunday evening, there are several players lining up against familiar faces. Brandon Underwood patrols the Rebels' blue-line after being traded to Red Deer two games into the season. On the Pats side of things, Stephen Hak and Marc McCoy take on their old mates. Since joining the Pats, McCoy quickly surpassed his point totals while with the Rebels while Hak has been an important part of the Pats' young defence.

Sharing the Load

Teagan Sacher is seeing some extra minutes in the last week. He got back to back starts for the third time this season, starting with a 2-1 loss to Swift Current and Sunday's 5-2 loss to Calgary. Sacher's back to back starts came after Matt Hewitt started 11 of the Pats' last 12 games.

Closing in on 30

The Pats will likely feature two 30 goal scorers this season. The question is; who will reach the mark first? Morgan Klimchuk and Lane Scheidl both sit at 29 goals and have been trading the scoring lead all season and their combined 58 goals accounts for 38.4% of the Pats markers this season.

Quick Hits

- Morgan Klimchuk needs just two more points to reach the 100 point plateau (47G, 51A, 131 GP)

- The next time Chandler Stephenson steps on the ice will be his 150th WHL game he has 93 points in 149 contests

- Kyle Burroughs is the first Pats defenceman to reach 20 points on the season (3G, 17A)
