Patroons Edge Steelheads With 53 Point Barrage

Published on November 27, 2005 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

GARY, Indiana (November 27, 2005) - A CBA-best 53-point scoring performance from Ronald Thompson proved too much for the Gary Steelheads, who fell to the Albany Patroons 102-101 Sunday at the Genesis Center. In the process, Gary fell into second place in the Eastern Conference with a 3-2 record.

The Steelheads had a 14-point lead almost halfway into the fourth quarter, before the 5-10 Thompson caught fire. By the time the quarter was over, Thompson had scored 24 points and the Patroons had prevailed. It was the first road victory for the expansion franchise, improving their record to 2-3.

The Steelheads were paced by Randy Holcomb, who tossed in a CBA career-high 28 points and added a team-high 12 rebounds. Jimmie "Snap" Hunter tossed in 19 points, while handing out a team-high 5 assists.

For the fourth time in five games, the Steelheads were outrebounded by their opposition. This time, Albany had a 61-46 edge on the glass. The Patroons shot .600 from three-point range.

The two teams will meet in a rematch at the Knickerbocker Arena in Albany on Wednesday night.
