BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, September 29, 2005 (QMJHL) - General Manager and part-owner Patrick Roy was named the Quebec Remparts new Head Coach at a press conference held this afternoon at the Colisée Pepsi.
Eric Lavigne, who had coached the team since the beginning of the 2002-03 season, was fired after a slow start as the team managed only one win in its first five games. "Unfortunately, after last year's playoff loss to Chicoutimi and the results at the beginning of this season, we felt a change was necessary," said Roy, who joined the team after retiring from the NHL in 2003. "I believe I can bring passion to this team and to its players. I want them to work hard for the people of Quebec City and elevate their games to another level come playoff time."
Roy's only previous coaching experience was at the bantam AA level, where he led his son's team, the Beaubourg Seigneurs, to a 20-3-1 record as well as the League title. His first game behind the bench of a QMJHL team is tomorrow night as the St. John's Fog Devils visit the Colisée Pepsi for the Remparts home opener.
