15-14!

Colorado rallies from 6 down to top Wenatchee in battle for the ages

12/2/08 - The Colorado Lightning staged one for the history books with an improbable 15-14 overtime win on Sunday over the Wenatchee Fire at the Budweiser Events Center. Mark Cromie became the first PASL-Pro player to score five goals in a game and three other players had four apiece, including Luis Dominguez, Jr., whose last goal ended the game at 1:37 of sudden death.

--Wenatchee led just 5-2 at halftime

--By :35 of the fourth quarter they had built an 11-5 lead

--Colorado cut the lead to 11-10 with 5 goals in 3:59 only to then surrender 3 goals to fall

behind 14-10 with 4:26 remaining in regulation

--Colorado scored 3 goals in 56 seconds to cut it to 14-13

--Clayton Zelin tied the game with a shorthanded goal with 44 seconds remaining

--Colorado scored 9 goals in the 4th quarter

PASL-Pro League Action

Wenatchee will head back to the Northwest licking its wounds. The Fire dropped an 11-6 decision in Denver on Saturday and blew the six-goal lead in Colorado the next night in giving up 15 goals for the second time in three games.

The St. Louis Illusion became the first PASL-Pro team to beat a CMISL team, topping the Calgary United 8-5 on Friday. Calgary had beaten Denver twice earlier in the season.

The Texas Outlaws showed it wasn't a fluke and beat Calgary 6-5 the next night, rallying from a 5-4 deficit.

KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

15-14

The PASL-Pro is doing its best to shed the image of soccer as a slow, low-scoring sport. Capped off by Sunday's extravaganza, PASL-Pro games are averaging 15.18 goals per game.

Joe Reiniger, St. Louis Illusion

The 38 (on December 7) year old pure striker was one of the top 3 scorers in the NPSL in the late 1990s and now, well rested, he's off to a dominant start with six goals and five assists in two St. Louis wins.

Alex Megson and Junior Garcia, Wenatchee Fire

Megson was the brightspot in Wenatchee's 11-6 loss to Denver Saturday with four goals and an assist. Garcia, the reigning PDL MVP, scored four goals in Sunday's loss. The Fire may be taking their knocks early on this year, but the future is bright with this pair of 22-year old aces.

Luis Dominguez, Jr., Colorado Lightning

The local Loveland product has been a focal point in the Lightning's marketing early on. Having cut his teeth with the PASL-Premier Ft. Collins Fury, Dominguez, 24, is now coming into his own as evidenced by his four goal, one assist game on Sunday against Wenatchee. In overtime he was awarded a penalty kick and was at first unsuccessful, but with a little determination he corraled the rebound and ended the game in sudden death.

The Week Ahead

There are six games this weekend, including two between the Saskatoon Accelerators and Calgary United. The CMISL's Saskatoon squad is the last remaining team that has yet to play a game. That will quickly reverse itself as the Accelerators have five games in December.

The other interesting road trip takes the Texas Outlaws to Stockton and Wenatchee on Friday and Saturday, respectively. It should be a good indicator of where Texas stands and a good chance for the Fire to get their first win against a road-weary opponent.
