PASL Weekly - Week 4

December 4, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

"The Bolt" Unveils the Bolts

12/4/09 - Bernie "the Bolt" Lilavois, who led the PASL-Pro in scoring last year and coached the Cougars to a PASL title, has emerged with his own new team in the PASL-Premier that will be called the Los Angeles Bolts.

The Bolts make their debut on Saturday in qualifying matches for the US Open Arena Soccer Championship. They will play their home games at Garden Grove Arena.

Lilavois will wear multiple hats as a player/coach/general manager and co-owner of the team, roles he has been preparing for throughout his storied career.

"I'm relying on the experiences I've had over the course of my career, both good and bad, as a Player, Coach and Director of Operations to form this organization from scratch."

Cougars, Vortex to Host Home Openers

The last two PASL-Pro teams will welcome their home fans back this weekend. The California Cougars will open for the first time in Turlock Indoor Soccer on Sunday against the winless Denver Dynamite. The Ohio Vortex open their temporary stay in Cleveland on Saturday night against their in-state rivals from Cincinnati.

PASL-Premier

The PASL-Premier, in the midst of its 12th year as the largest arena soccer league in the country, embarks on its 7th winter season starting Saturday. The PASL-Premier will feature 47 teams this year.

Creating a more definitive boundary between the amateur Premier league and the Pro league, three PASL-Pro teams opted to partner with independent Premier teams, eshewing the somewhat incestuous relationships they had last year with their own in-house affiliations.

"What we're seeing now is greater sophistication in our development systems," said PASL Commissioner Kevin Milliken. "Players are more likely to be classified as either pro or amateur now as opposed to straddling the fence between the leagues. The cream will rise to the top."

Detroit and Denver will continue to operate their own PASL-Premier affiliates.
