Kings Thwarted by Nemesis in Bid to Run Away with East
12/8/10 - The rout was on in the Eastern Division. The Cincinnati Kings were 5-0 and the rest of the division had a losing record. A win on Sunday would have opened up a four game cushion for the Kings.
Instead, Cincinnati traveled to Detroit and was greeted by a packed house at the Taylor Sportsplex and left with a 6-4 defeat. The Waza was led by goalkeeper Vito Lonigro and two goals from Miki Djerisilo making his first appearance of the season. Detroit improved to 2-2 and cut Cincinnati's division lead to two games.
Cincinnati is now 30-8 all-time in the regular season, but half of those losses have come at Detroit.
Player of the Week
Vito Lonigro, Detroit Waza
If there's one area the Waza have been consistently lacking on the field it's the goalkeeper position. Detroit has literally gone through a dozen 'keepers in their 2+ year history, but they may have found some stability in Vito Lonigro. The 21 year old rookie has made three starts and has backstopped both Waza wins this season. He made 17 saves and held the high-powered offense of the Cincinnati Kings to just four goals and shut them out in the fourth quarter of their 6-4 win on Sunday. Detroit and Lonigro also held break-out sensation Eddie Hertsenberg to just one goal after Hertsenberg victimized the Ohio Vortex for four goals on Saturday.
KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro
The Big Hert
The aforementioned Eddie Hertsenberg is coming into his own in his third season with the Cincinnati Kings. Hertsenberg had just two assists in 2008/09 and five goals and two assists last year. This year however the 24 year old has blown away his previous career highs and already has nine goals and five assists in just six games.
Home Records
Even though Cincinnati moved to a new home arena this season, they kept one tradition intact: winning. The Kings did not play at home this week so their all-time home mark remains 18-0. The San Diego Sockers haven't been in the league as long, but they can still feel pretty good about their all-time record of 11-0 at Del Mar Arena and that's not even including their US Open and playoff wins.
