PASL-Pro Weekly - Week 10

Published on January 19, 2011 under Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL) News Release

Sockers, Kings Quell Uprising

1/19/11 - The eerie symmetry between the Eastern Division and Western Divisions in the PASL-Pro stayed intact this week with both first place teams holding off a brief challenge to retake firm control of their leads.

The San Diego Sockers at 7-2 were facing the 5-2 Revolucion Tijuana in Mexico. A win by Revolucion would have put them percentage points ahead of the Sockers. But with Tijuana averaging over 10 goals per game, the Sockers turned in their best defensive performance of the season in a 6-3 win. The Sockers now lead the west by two games.

Meanwhile in Cincinnati, the Kings at 8-2 were taking on the 5-2 Detroit Waza. Cincinnati dispatched Detroit 8-3 and the reeling Waza lost 10-4 on Saturday against Louisville to fall three games behind the Kings.

Player of the Week

Chad Hagerty, Louisville Lightning

The unexpected leading scorer of the Lightning (10-4-14 in six games played) had four goals to lead Louisville to a 10-4 win in Detroit. The 24 year old midfielder had five goals and an assist in his rookie season last year with the Lightning. Hagerty beat out San Diego's Dan Antoniuk (2-1-3 at Tijuana), and Cincinnati's Jeff Hughes (3-1-4 vs. Detroit) and Drew Ducker (3-0-0 vs. Detroit) for this week's nod.

Kick Starters - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Kings of their Castle

Cincinnati picked up another home win last weekend to run their all-time home record to 21-0 in the regular season. The San Diego Sockers are still in the hunt at 12-0 all-time at home.

Invaders Reunion Tour

The Ohio Vortex are paying special tribute to the Canton Invaders at their home game this Saturday against the Winnipeg Alliance, but Illinois Piasa fans got a very special sneak peek on Saturday. With their lineup decimated by injuries, the Vortex turned to their head coach and former Invader Denzil Antonio to come out of retirement and lace 'em up one more time. The 46 year old Antonio played limited minutes, but did register three shots in his first appearance of the century.

US Open Update

The Tacoma Stars won their quarterfinal game in California 7-5 and will face the winner of Friday's game between the Las Vegas Knights and San Diego Sockers in the semifinals. In the eastern bracket the Louisville Lightning are awaiting the winner of Illinois and Cincinnati to see who their semifinal opponent will be.
